Shah Rukh Khan reaches ₹8000 crore box‑office mark ahead of “King” debut
- SRK’s lifetime box‑office gross equals ₹8000 crore, matching Salman Khan.
- He earned ₹2671 crore from 2020‑present, second only to Ranveer Singh.
- “King” releases on 24 December 2026 with Kareena Kapoor’s cameo song.
- SRK has ten year‑end number‑1 films, the most among his peers.
Shah Rukh Khan has reached a lifetime box-office total of ₹8000 crore, matching the career gross of Salman Khan, as the actor turned 61. The Hindustantimes reported his career gross is almost ₹8000 crore, placing him above Aamir Khan, whose lifetime total is approximately ₹6600 crore from fewer films.
This box-office figure arrives as the film industry faces shifting audience habits following the Covid pandemic, which moved viewers toward OTT platforms and away from theatres. While Aamir Khan was selective, taking four years to produce Mangal Pandey which performed poorly, Shah Rukh Khan has delivered ten blockbusters, the highest number of number-1 films among his contemporaries.
In 2008-09, Aamir Khan’s film Ghajini joined the ₹100-crore club, while Salman Khan entered a career period with the films Wanted and Dabangg. After 2015, Shah Rukh Khan experienced a period where none of his films were clean hits, with titles such as Dilwale and Raees failing to match the figures of his peers.
The actor’s next film, titled King, is scheduled to launch in theatres on 24 December 2026. This release will arrive during the Christmas holiday period, shortly after the debut of Avengers: Doomsday, which is set for 18 December 2026.
2020‑present earnings place him second after Ranveer Singh
Between 2020 and the present, Shah Rukh Khan earned ₹2671 crore from three films. This total ranks him as the second-highest-grossing Indian actor for that period, behind Ranveer Singh.
Shah Rukh Khan's earnings in this period surpassed the ₹902 crore earned by Salman Khan and the ₹359 crore earned by Aamir Khan. During this time, Salman Khan’s film Laal Singh Chaddha and Aamir Khan’s film Radhey were commercial flops.
Previously, Aamir Khan topped the box office with Dangal, while Salman Khan led with Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Akshay Kumar also out-earned Shah Rukh Khan in the same period before facing a series of failures.
Since his 1992 debut, Shah Rukh Khan has produced the year-end number-one film ten times. Only Dilip Kumar shares his success rate of over 50 per cent among major Indian actors. Dilip Kumar achieved the year-end number-one title eight times, while Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan reached it seven times each. Raj Kapoor held the top spot six times.
“King” details: Kareena Kapoor’s special song and shoot
Kareena Kapoor has joined the cast of the action thriller film King. Shah Rukh Khan confirmed her association on social media while sharing a first glimpse of the pair on his 61st birthday.
Kareena Kapoor wrote on social media: "Happy Birthday King. The forever Ruler of the kingdom. Let's dance together... Can't wait. 24-12-26". Gauri Khan responded to the announcement by stating: "It's going to be insane".
The production will film the track in South Africa later this month, with the actress allocating five days for the shoot.
Music composers Sachin-Jigar created the track, which will feature an Indian artist alongside an unnamed international artist.
Atlee collaboration “Jawan” breaks records
Jawan was the Bollywood directorial debut for Atlee in 2023. The action thriller earned over ₹1,160 crore worldwide.
Shah Rukh Khan performed in dual roles as the father, Vikram Rathore, and his son, Azad. The production featured Nayanthara in her Hindi debut and Vijay Sethupathi as the antagonist.
Deepika Padukone appeared in an extended cameo, while Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, and Sunil Grover filled supporting roles. Anirudh Ravichander composed the music for the film, marking his debut as a composer for a Hindi production.
The narrative combined large-scale action with themes of justice and society. Shah Rukh Khan spent the initial years following the pandemic on a hiatus, but he broke records in 2023.
On 2 November 2026, Atlee described Shah Rukh Khan as his mentor, guide, well-wisher, and biggest inspiration. He said the time he spent with the actor taught him about life, cinema, people, and humility. Atlee is currently developing a science-fiction thriller titled Raaka, which will feature Allu Arjun.
