Rockstar sets GTA VI pre-load for 10 November
- Pre-loading for GTA VI begins on 10 November 2026.
- The game requires up to 212 GB of free storage space.
- The official launch date is set for 19 November 2026.
- Physical editions will contain a digital code instead of a disc.
- The standard retail price for the game is $79.99.
Rockstar has confirmed that digital pre-loading for Grand Theft Auto VI will commence on 10 November 2026 across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. For PlayStation 5 owners, the download becomes available at midnight local time in each time zone, while Xbox Series X/S users will gain access at 12 a.m. GMT.
This pre-load window opens nine days prior to the official worldwide release of the title on 19 November.
Game requires up to 212 GB of storage
Players must ensure they have up to 212 GB of free storage space available to install Grand Theft Auto VI, though the exact file size will depend on the console used. The store page will display the specific requirement for each device once pre-loading begins.
This maximum figure is slightly higher than the 210 GB suggested by PlayStation Store data in late October. The game is approximately double the size of Red Dead Redemption 2, which occupied around 100 GB at its own launch.
Rockstar has not provided information regarding a day-one patch, so it is advised to leave a margin of space beyond the 212 GB requirement. It is recommended to have roughly 250 GB of free space on any console to ensure a safe installation.
Owners of the 512 GB Xbox Series S should plan carefully, as the game occupies over half of the free space and requires additional temporary room for patches.
Official launch scheduled for 19 November
The official launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S occurs on 19 November 2026. This release is projected to be the largest entertainment launch ever.
Regardless of the purchase method, the software remains locked until the regional unlock time on 19 November.
Physical editions contain digital codes
Physical editions of the game will be available at retailers starting 12 November 2026.
Because the retail boxes contain no game disc, buyers must download the full software. Owners of these copies can initiate the download by redeeming the code once they have the box.
This delivery method creates a two-day head start for digital purchasers over those buying physical versions.
Standard retail price set at $79.99
Rockstar has set the standard retail price for Grand Theft Auto VI at $79.99. This pricing applies to the title on both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Map poster options available for purchase
Players can download a double-sided printable map poster for free. Rockstar will also sell a physical copy of the map for $0.99, which is available as a standalone purchase or as a complimentary gift with any order from the Rockstar Store.
The specific design of this map poster has not yet been revealed.
Storage management and console compatibility
Pre-loading is restricted to copies of the game purchased before the launch date. PlayStation 5 users can manage their downloads through the Game Library or by enabling automatic downloads, while Xbox Series X|S users can locate the game in their queue under the My Games and Apps menu.
Users can also use USB drives to park older games to free up space on the internal SSD, allowing them to be moved back later without the need for re-downloading.
Pre-load date moved forward from previous estimates
The start date for pre-loading is 10 November. This date is two days earlier than the 12 November schedule that was previously circulating before Rockstar published its 3 November Newswire post.
