How to Stream British TV Shows Using ITVX

Is ITVX free for streaming British TV?

ITVX is a streaming service that lets you watch British television shows on demand. You can access thousands of hours of programming for free by watching advertisements during your programs. Or, you can pay a monthly fee to remove those interruptions and gain access to additional content. It works by streaming video over your internet connection to a web browser, mobile app, or smart television. You simply create an account to start watching your favorite dramas or documentaries. It provides a straightforward way to keep up with ITV’s broadcast schedule without needing a traditional antenna or cable connection.

What is the current ITVX subscription cost?

Getting started requires only an email address and a compatible device. Visit the ITVX website or download the application from your device's app store to register for a free account. Once you log in, you can browse categories or search for specific titles. Most content is ready to play immediately once you click. If you prefer, you can also watch without an account, but you will lose the ability to save your progress. Signing in ensures the service remembers exactly where you stopped watching.

How to access ITVX content online

The free tier is ad-supported, meaning you must watch short commercial breaks during your shows. As of October 2026, the premium subscription costs £5.99 per month. Paying this fee removes the advertisements from most content. Furthermore, premium members gain access to the full BritBox library, which includes a wide range of classic British dramas. You can choose to upgrade or cancel your subscription at any time through the account settings page. Weigh the cost against how much you value an uninterrupted viewing experience.

Key features of the ITVX streaming app

Offline viewing is a feature reserved exclusively for premium subscribers. If you pay for the premium tier, you can download shows directly to your mobile device or tablet. This is helpful for long commutes or travel where you lack a reliable internet connection. Keep in mind that these downloads are not permanent. They will expire after a set period, usually 30 days, or if the show leaves the platform entirely. You must reconnect to the internet periodically to renew your access.

What devices support the ITVX app?

ITVX is built to function across a wide range of modern hardware. You can use it on most smart televisions produced in the last several years, as well as iOS and Android devices. Web browsers on desktop computers also provide full access to the library. If you are unsure if your specific television model is compatible, check the support section on the ITVX website. It lists the minimum software versions required for each platform to ensure smooth playback.

Common limitations of the ITVX service

No service is perfect, and ITVX has a few limitations users should expect. First, the advertisements in the free tier can become repetitive if you binge-watch several episodes in a row. Not all shows are available in high definition, which may be disappointing on larger screens. Finally, some content is only licensed for a limited time. A show you want to watch today might disappear from the platform next month. Always check the ‘leaving soon’ section if you have a specific series in mind.
